August Adventures With Atlas Outfitting!
First off, thank you!!
July and August have been our biggest months yet at Atlas Outfitting — and it’s all thanks to you! We truly appreciate your support, whether you’ve been with us for years or just joined us this season. You’re the reason this summer has been such a success. If you’re hoping to fit in one more fishing trip before the season wraps up, now’s the time — give us a call and let’s make it happen!
Book your Molokai Fishing and Hunting Adventure!
For the first time ever, Atlas Outfitting is offering an exclusive hunting and fly fishing experience on the island of Molokai, Hawai‘i — and we’d love for you to be part of it. Truly, this will be a once-in-a-lifetime adventure: two days of ocean fly fishing for bone fish, two days of hunting for axis deer, oceanfront deluxe camping with hot showers, a private chef preparing every meal, and two Montana-Hawaiian brothers leading the charge. :)
Ikaika Flagg — outfitter, guide, and founder of Atlas Outfitting — has a lifelong passion for fishing, hunting and exploring the outdoors with the people he loves. One of those people is his younger brother and best friend, Kalama Flagg, who guides alongside him in Montana each summer. Together, they’ll be co-leading the hunting portion of the Molokai trip.
The Flagg brothers’ roots run deep in Hawai’i. Both of their parents were born and raised on O’ahu, their extended family still calls it home, and they grew up fishing off the lava rock cliffs, hunting pigs and axis deer, and enjoying their favorite foods on the beach. They’re the perfect people to share Molokai, Hawai’i with you, especially when it comes to hunting and fishing.
Spots are limited, and our waitlist is already growing! We’ll be reaching out to clients at the end of August to offer spots on a first-come, first-served basis. Your reservation can be secured with a deposit. We can’t wait to make this trip unforgettable! Call us with any questions or to hop on our waitlist asap!

August is the hottest month for fishing this year!
Several rivers are currently under Hoot Owl restrictions, which means fishing is not permitted once water temperatures reach 68 degrees, usually around 2pm. We’ve been fishing early at 7/8am and wrapping up by 2/3pm to accommodate. Click here to view the Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks website for the full list of rivers under Hoot Owl restrictions.
Tips for fishing in the heat!
Try wet wading — skip the waders and wade right into the river.
Hydrate! Montana is not only extra hot this time of year, it’s also dry. Bring a cold drink, your atlas outfitting sun hoodie and hat, and plenty of sunscreen.
Please be extra respectful of the fish in the heat by following Hoot Owl rules, keeping the fish in the water as much as possible, and releasing them slowly and gently.
What are we fishing? Any other recommendations?
We recommend dropping the dropper and fishing dries! Lately, we’ve had success with hoppers, spruce moths, ants, crayfish, callibaetis, sculpins and tricos. We also suggest hopping out of the boat to fish from your feet. Creeks and streams are perfect during hopper season to experience fewer people, cooler temperatures, and new spots to explore beautiful Montana scenery. Lake fishing is also a hit this time of year if you’re targeting bass, perch, carp, pike, or trout.
