Fall Fishing Report:
A BIG thank you to everyone who came out and fished with us this season!!
As the weather cools off, the fishing has been picking up! We've been spending most of our time on the Missouri, as the majority of the Big Hole is closed and the freestones are running low.
Think slow and deep waters!
The fish are starting to bulk up for winter and prepare for spawning season. Brown Trout are moving into the river systems, showing off their beautiful red and orange fall colors. With the river weeds nearly cleared out, it’s a great time to start swinging flies with a two-handed Spey or Switch fly rod. These rods allow you to cover more water and reach fish that can be harder to access with a traditional single-handed rod. Get out there and practice your Spey casting!
If you're hoping to see a unique species at LOTG, October and November are the perfect months to spot Kokanee in the river system! These salmonids turn brilliant red during spawning season and can be seen in the shallows. Normally found in the deeper parts of the lake, this is a rare opportunity to see them up close!
For your fall fishing adventures, we recommend fishing scuds, leeches, worms, egg patterns, and baitfish. Think bright fall colors like chartreuse, orange, pink, white, and olive. With fewer people on the water, there’s a great opportunity to hook into a big, colorful fish before the season wraps up!
